    Cannes nightlife

You probably think that clubs would be the most popular Cannes nightlife activity, but it's not. This is not to say that the Cannes club scene isn't hot, it certainly is. But the people of Cannes would much rather go to a casino than a dance club. Cannes has a number of world-class casinos such as Palm Beach Casino and the veteran Casino Croisette, as well as some of the hippest clubs in France, such as Le Life, and swank bars, such as Bar des Stars in the Hotel Majestic Barrière. One thing to keep in mind when visiting "pretty people" nightclubs, bars or lounges and any casino: dress to impress or you won't get in.

Cannes bars and pubs

The Cannes nightlife is more than casinos and clubs. In fact, it starts in the bars and pubs. Bar des Célébrités is the ground-floor bar of the Carlton and has a sea-facing terrace for all to see and be seen. Carignan is a small wine bar atop the hill in Le Suquet. Here you can taste wine safely in the knowledge that Léandre Piquet (a former sommelier at the Majestic) is an authority. The ambient Cannes bar Vogue in Le Suquet draws a young, trendy, predominantly gay crowd into electronic music. Zanzibar is the coast's oldest and most venerable gay bar, going strong since 1885, where people come to dance to house and admire erotic frescoes of well-built sailors. Another Cannes bar worth a visit is Le Carré Blanc. This ultramodern lounge features pink walls, dramatic lighting, and low stools with small tables perfect for gathering in small groups. Sophisticated touches such as mirrors and fresh flowers add to the experience. The regular clientele is young and stylish. There's always a party going on in Le Carré Blanc. A nice Cannes pub is the Quay's Irish Pub. Since 2001, this Cannes pub has become a meeting place for the maritime community on the old port. With a laid back atmosphere you can relax and enjoy a pint at your leisure.

Cannes clubs and night clubs

Cannes nightlife also includes a lot of trendy clubs. The Palais Club is one of the trendiest and most happening clubs with the world's best DJs in Cannes. A 2600m2 dance floor inside and 1500m2 rooftop lounge terrace with glittering sea view is the space. An affluent crowd of 2500 clubbers is the set. Le 7, a disco-and-house gay club, is a brilliant night out, but don't sit near the stage during the drag shows unless you're up for being part of the spectacle. Anyone who's anyone heads to L'Atelier, a spectacular club within the Palm Beach Casino. The interior - a minimalist mesh of Byzantine, Greco-Roman and Oriental - has a restaurant and lounge bar. Recently saved from bulldozers and spectacularly restored, it's well worth a nosey. DJs spin jazz and lounge music early on and R&B later on. There is also a Jimmy'z in Cannes... hot on the heels of its famous Monaco namesake. This Cannes club is located at the Casino Croisette, on the first floor of the Palais des Festivals. It has several dance floors and a great party atmosphere. The clientele is generally very chic, and the club is often the setting for fabulous parties.
