The Florence bus station is in the city center. Florence has a superb bus transportation network run by Azienda Trasporti Area Fiorentina (ATAF). The bus network operates between 06:00 and 23:25. Tickets are valid for 70 minute. Tickets cost €1.20 and are available for purchase at newsagents, most coffee bars at Box Ataf in Piazza Stazione and at automatic ticket dispensers.

Taxis are quite convenient because they have access to most streets that are otherwise closed to regular traffic. Taxis in Florence are white and are readily available throughout the city centre. They can be hailed on the streets, although they rarely stop. It is better to hire them at taxi ranks, which you can find mostly at the main piazzas. Note that taxis are considerably more costly than other forms of public transport, and you have to be aware that there may be surcharges for luggage, or if you are traveling late at night.

Trains to Florence

The city's main railway station is Firenze S.M.N. (Santa Maria Novella). Situated in the city centre, it is conveniently close to the major tourist attractions. The station area is also the principal node for the Florence bus station, with buses serving the city and surrounding area. Florence is on the main Rome-Milan line, which ensures a fast service to Italy's most important business and tourist centers. Passengers must validate their train tickets, by stamping them in the yellow machines on the platform before boarding. From Pisa International Airport Galileo Galilei, it’s very easy to get to Florence by train. Eight trains to Florence run daily from Pisa airport. The railway station at Pisa airport is next to the terminal and can be accessed via a covered walkway. Services run to Pisa Centrale and Florence (Firenze SMN).

Florence bus station

Bus and coach services connect Florence to the rest of Tuscany and Italy, as well as abroad. International coaches depart from Lazzi Station, next to the Florence train station of Santa Maria Novella. In collaboration with Eurolines, the station operates an extensive coach service to major European cities, including Antwerp, Barcelona, Brussels, London, Paris and Prague. SITA, who run many regional services, have their own bus station (Autostazione Sita) on Via Santa Caterina da Siena, a few yards from the train station.

Florence airport transfers

Florence Airport Amerigo Vespucci is served by around forty domestic and international flights each day. The local companies SITA and ATAF run airport transfers by bus between the airport and Santa Maria Novella Station. From Pisa Airport to Florence Santa Maria Novella Station you can take the shuttle coach airport transfer run by Terravision. Terravision representatives at their desk in the airport will direct you to your coach. From Florence Vespucci Airport to City centre by taxi is quite expensive. The set fare is €20 and in addition there is also the fare clocked up on the meter and other possible charges, like baggage supplements for €1 per item.
