Riga public transport runs daily from 5:30AM up to 11:30PM. During the nighttime there are several tram and trolleybus routes running once an hour.

Riga train and bus guide

You can take trains to Moscow, St Petersburg, Minsk and many other cities in the Baltic States and Eastern Europe. Riga train station (Centrala Stacija) is close to the Riga bus station in easy walking distance. There are direct buses to Riga from all the Nordic Counties and Germany, Poland, Russia, Belarus, Estonia and Lithuania.

Riga train station

Riga train station, Centrala Stacija, Stacijas laukums, has separate departure and arrival halls for international and domestic services. Passenger facilities include ATM, bureau de change, train service information, post office, left luggage, cafes and restaurants. The train is probably not the best Riga public transport because long distance rail services can be slow and prone to delays. Tickets for immediate departures have to be bought in the main ticket hall on the right side of the main entrance, counters 1 to 13. Tickets for international trains are sold at counters 1 to 6. For overnight trips to Minsk or St. Petersburg choose the more luxurious coupe, four-bunk compartments or, on the train to Moscow, the first class SV, two-bunk compartments, with video and on-board service.

Riga bus station

Riga bus station, Autoosta, is open from 05AM to midnight. For information try the info centre (08AM – 21PM) next to the main entrance. Riga is linked to major European cities in the East and West. The bus is quicker and cheaper than the train but they often fill up quickly, especially during the summer. Ticket counters 1 - 9 sell tickets to all local destinations. For buses to Kyiv, Moscow and Western Europe visit the international ticket office or ‘starptautiskā kase’ next to the waiting room. The bus station is just south of the Old Town in the middle of the city.
